This session examines ethnic tolerance and the role of media in the intercultural dialogue.
The students are asked to focus on the huge potential media have to influence society, a fact that leaves journalists with a great responsibility. The students will be given a test where the aim is to develop their intercultural understanding. They will also learn about the experience of intercultural communication in one of the most multinational and multi-faith federal districts in Russia – the Volga Federal District. The session commences with group work and the test of the students´ knowledge of the culture, traditions and customs of different peoples. This will help to measure the level of their own interest in issues relating to intercultural communication in modern media. Following this, the students will listen to a lecture. The sessions´ educational elements will prepare the students for practical homework: presentation of their country, its national characteristics and its culture, customs and traditions.
